Did not have the medicine needed to treat bloody stool, paid ridiculous cost at pharmacy. Forgot to mention my dog also may have an ear infection, in which you'd think they would have noticed the redness considering you pay $54 for the exam. The vet and front desk staff were not very friendly. One nurse was super sweet, but overall the experience was not good and I won't return.
Dr. Kreis is such an amazing vet and has helped to ensure that both of our Dobermans have been healthy since they were pups. Total confidence in her and New River vet in general. Shout out to Carlee at the front. The HyLyt dog shampoo is worth the money.
She is excellent with our other two boys - a Persian and orange tabby cat. I feel confident with her expertise keeping our guys happy & healthy.
The whole thing was a complete joke and rip off that left me feeling hopeless. I later took her to the Animal Emergency and Pet Care Clinic on 105 and they diagnosed her with Athena within minutes. They charged me way less than the other place and she had been perfect ever since the shot they gave her.
First off we love Dr Kreis. She was with us the last few weeks of our beloved Aries life. Very compassionate and made the transition best possible for all of us.
I do NOT recommend Appalachian New River Vet. I took my cat there (who it turns out just had asthma) and the doctor literally told me "I don't know enough to diagnose her." They charged me almost $400 and recommended that I take her all the way to Winston and spend over $1000.
Seems to me a vet should be able to tell if an animal has something as simple as asthma.
Until this went corporate, this was a great veterinary office. After that, it no longer is. The vets are too pushed to call you back, or a least at a decent hour. 8:00 at night is too late for me to talk. Even then I had to request twice a call to discuss surgery for my pet. I finally gave up and am going elsewhere because if that pushed it seems reasonable my dog won't get quality care either. Oh, Dr Thompson, we miss you.
If you want good, reliable care, do NOT go to the Appalachian New River Vet. O/5 stars
